What is RFID?
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a wireless identification and data capture technology that uses radio waves. RFID allows information to be stored on small chips (RFID tags) that can be read contactlessly by a reader. These tags typically consist of a microchip and an antenna. Passive tags, such as those used in labelling, do not require their own power source and are activated by the electromagnetic field of the reader.
RFID is used in many areas, including logistics for tracking goods, retail for inventory management, access control (such as key cards), healthcare for managing patient records and many other applications where fast, contactless identification is required.

What are the benefits of RFID solutions?
RFID is a technology that allows data to be read contactlessly by radio. With handheld readers, it can be used to capture larger amounts of data (inventory) more quickly. More exciting, however, is the automated recording of material movements. Cranes or forklift trucks, for example, can be equipped with reading technology that automatically identifies parts as they are picked up and put down and records, for example, an unloading position. The same applies to a target/actual comparison of loading lists during loading. This automation can reliably prevent incorrect loading. The 'intelligence' in the background is important - the software as the basis for the target/actual comparison.
Another important point is 'security': information can be read remotely via RFID. This greatly increases safety at work, especially in the steel production environment.
