Solar carport at S+P Samson

The energy transition is in full swing. Also at S+P Samson.

The new parking lot canopy featuring a 1,000 m² solar carport is nearing completion. A sophisticated solution that, in combination with the existing system, will cover 100% of our own electricity needs (approx. 800,000 kWh) during the summer months in the future. This completely switches the energy supply of our ultra-modern production facilities to green, in-house generation during the summer.

Viewed over the entire year, the degree of energy self-sufficiency will stand at 50%. From year one of operating the new and existing systems together, debt service and cost savings roughly balance each other out. Based on a planned service life of 20 years, the net economic surplus amounts to over 1 million euros.

Sustainability Meets Cost-Effectiveness

What benefits the environment is therefore also highly profitable. For industrial companies, this major project demonstrates that ecological responsibility and economic sense can go hand in hand. The investment safeguards our company in the long term against volatile electricity prices and unpredictable developments on the energy markets. This independence guarantees our partners a future-proof identification media production at a consistently high level – even in economically volatile times.

Furthermore, this carbon-neutral energy generation directly contributes to our customers' sustainability balance sheets. As Scope 3 emissions play an increasingly vital role in the industrial supply chain, our investments also support the sustainability targets of those operations that utilize our robust specialty labels in harsh conditions every day.

And there is also a very practical side effect for the team in Kissing: the carport provides shaded parking spots in the summer and completely frost-free car windows in the winter. This enhances convenience for all on-site employees. What more could you want.
