The trade-off in vehicle manufacturing: secure adhesion vs. clean removal
In industrial production and logistics within the vehicle manufacturing sector, components must be reliably marked throughout the process. At the same time, there is a requirement that these markings must be completely removed prior to final assembly or delivery. When used on sensitive surfaces such as painted, coated or galvanised surfaces, this often leads to problems in practice.
Whilst the labels adhere well to the components when clean, the material structure changes under thermal stress. If the load is left in the sun for a prolonged period, the conventional adhesive bonds too strongly to the substrate. Removal becomes time-consuming, or visual imperfections remain on the component.
The solution: GRAPHIPLAST® with special adhesive ‘681’
S+P Samson GmbH offers a process-reliable combination of robust GRAPHIPLAST® plastic labels and the newly developed special adhesive ‘681’ for these demanding applications. This technology combines high initial adhesion during transport with guaranteed, residue-free removability in the final process.
The adhesive is characterised by its chemical inertness. It does not react with the underlying layers or paints of the component. Migration of adhesive components into the paintwork is physically prevented. As a result, when the label is removed, no so-called ‘shadow’ remains on the sensitive surfaces to indicate that a label was previously present. The performance of the adhesive application is such that, if necessary, the adhesive can even be rubbed off paper surfaces without leaving any residue. This ensures the visual quality of the components and prevents rejects during final inspection.
