Interview | Team Leader Sales DE/AT
Stefan Heinzler tells us about his 2024 craftsmanship project:
Stefan, a picture of your "table" project is doing the rounds. How did you come up with the idea of making your own table?
My wife remarked that our old table had become too small for our four grandchildren. It was a clear task for me. My nephew has access to a wood workshop and we have already done a few things there. For me, wood is a great material to work with. In addition to wood, I've also made pieces in epoxy resin, which I've now done for the table. I like the combination because you can emphasise individual pieces of wood that wouldn't be suitable for a table by casting them in resin.
What were the challenges - you don't do this every day?
Air pockets ruin the look. To avoid this, the wooden parts have to be pre-treated with the resin. For the actual casting, the resin and all the parts have to be brought to the same temperature. The resin itself will flow well and create a smooth surface. A uniform surface is then achieved by sanding and polishing. Much like preparing a car paint job.
And how did you get the bruise under your fingernail?
The plate weighs 80 kilos. It slipped when I was turning it on the base frame - you intuitively grab it. It fell off anyway. But it's still there, the finger. It'll be fine...
