In mechanical engineering, there is no one-size-fits-all label

From small parts and pre-assembled sub-assemblies to large machine components and tools: in mechanical engineering, size, shape, surface finish and handling often vary considerably.

This also means that the requirements for labelling vary. On a flat surface, an adhesive label may be the right solution. For pipes, components with irregular geometries or during assembly, a tag is often more suitable.

Combi-labels are particularly versatile, as they can be either stuck on or attached depending on the application. This allows a single labelling solution to be used for different components and process steps.

Barcodes, DataMatrix and RFID also enable digital identification and traceability – from the warehouse through production and assembly to provision or dispatch.

Labelling solutions in mechanical engineering

Hang tag on a large machine part

From small parts to large components

PROBLEM

Small components, assemblies, large machine parts and tools vary greatly in size, shape and surface finish.

SOLUTION

A variety of label formats and materials enable labelling that is specifically tailored to the component and its application.

Combined label for small parts

Bonding – not always possible

PROBLEM

Not every component has a suitable adhesive surface. At the same time, hanging labels are not always suitable for every process.

SOLUTION

Adhesive, hanging and combination labels allow for flexible attachment. Combination labels can be stuck on or hung, depending on the component’s geometry.

Hang tag on a mesh box containing machine parts

Components in the process

PROBLEM

From the warehouse through machining and pre-assembly to final assembly, components must be clearly traceable.

SOLUTION

Durable labelling ensures relevant information remains available on the component and supports a seamless flow of materials and assembly.

Self-adhesive label with barcode on a machine part

Identify clearly

PROBLEM

Item, order or identification data must remain reliably linked to the correct object.

SOLUTION

Barcodes, DataMatrix and RFID enable the unique digital identification of components, assemblies and tools.

From individual parts to the finished machine

In mechanical and plant engineering, a finished product is created step by step from many individual components. Parts production, sub-assembly, final assembly and testing each place different demands on marking and traceability.

The production process in mechanical engineering, from individual components through assembly of sub-assemblies to the finished machine

During the production process, the identity changes from an individual component to an assembly and finally to the complete machine or plant. Marking facilitates the unambiguous allocation of the item, production order, serial number and process step.

Barcodes or RFID can make the required information available directly on the object and support end-to-end identification right through to delivery.

Test the labelling on your material

Every surface and every process is different. That is why we recommend carrying out a practical test under real-world conditions.
